WIBN SUPPORT: Meeting Testimonials

Marguerite Lorimer, Producer – Photographer EarthAlive Communications:

It has been very inspiring to me to chair and participate in the WIBN Support Meetings. The women who attend – many who have an impressive level of business knowledge and experience – are not only focused on creating and celebrating success in their own businesses, but enthusiastically support other women in their efforts to grow successful businesses. The wisdom, brainstorming, creative ideas and respect shared in the meetings has been nothing short of extraordinary. I am proud to be part of such a dynamic group.

Kelly Samuelson, KLS Photography:

Support group has helped both myself and my business in so many ways. I learned how to step away from things that weren’t important and focus on ideas and strategies that were oriented towards my business’s success. I have gotten a number of great ideas from the group for things I personally struggle with, such as branding. The support goes well beyond these twice monthly meetings as well. Each time, my designated support person was there for me anytime during the two weeks for advice or just to talk. I also have seen networking possibilities come out of our support meetings. It’s amazing how sometimes one problem coincides with another and the solution benefits both businesswoman.

Jessica Murr, Realtor:

Attending the WIBN Support Meetings has empowered me to make some very difficult business decisions and the confidence in myself to follow through with them. The advice and perspectives I receive at the meetings are always beneficial to me and I leave the meetings feeling like I’ve been re-centered and ready to continue to evolve into success!

Atara Melo, Owner, A Melo Place:

From WIBN support groups I received ideas to spread the news about this shop opening, support when I was feeling blue and distressed, and ideas about social networking. I also have a friend who would like to join WIBN but works in the daytime, so she will make the Wed night meetings her opportunity to get in touch with the larger group.

Sandy Patterson, Owner, Alternative Health Solutions:

It is so wonderful to know you have support, that you’re not in it alone. Friends that will listen to your concerns and give you some great ideas. And if you know what you need to do, you are now committed to doing it by the next time you go to the next meeting. Thanks for putting this group together, I really enjoy it and it makes me more committed to do my one step to reach my goal.

WIBN Chairwoman, Maltide de Franchis-Unruh:

Dear Marguerite,

I wish to express my gratitude for your leadership and guidance in regards to the Support Committee.  The reason for attending the first meeting for me was to be of support to you and to make sure we were within certain guidelines that I wished to follow when requesting to start this new committee.

The warmth and harmony of the women attending and your kindness made it comfortable and reassured me that you were the right one for the task. Every session has been very interesting and uplifting. The help and comfort requested and given are exactly what we need to make women understand what we are capable of doing, how much we are worth and how successful we can be in our own business. It is also interesting to see how different members attend the different meetings and how appropriate is that time for each one.

The idea of pairing for support allows us to express our feelings, concerns and accomplishments, beyond the regular meetings, knowing that what is expressed will not go anywhere else. Very important for our protection. Thank you for the time you dedicate to this project. Great job!

The Twitter Revolution

We aim to explain Twitter in terms you understand, in a language you know and a context that is relevant to your business. We will give tips and techniques for organizations large and small – whether you are a hotel or charity, a recruitment agency, a nightclub or a retailer or a law firm, Twitter may be useful to your business or organization.

By the end of the Twitter workshop:

  • You will know enough to judge whether Twitter is a useful marketing tool for you or not.
  • You will have enough information and know how to create a Twitter strategy for your organization.
  • You will be equipped to engage in activity using Twitter.

Information will be clearly presented in a non-technical way in a context relevant to those attending, using case studies and examples.

During the workshop we will address all the key Twitter functions and techniques:

  • Setting up an account and picking a name
  • Creating your profile
  • Setting the right tone
  • “Appropriate use”
  • Finding friends
  • Writing a Tweet
  • Building a following
  • Managing interaction
  • Using Applications and “Mash-ups” (such as Tweetdeck, Social Oomph, Hootesuite and more)
  • Using Links
  • Using @replies, Direct Messages, Re-Tweets and Tags (Hashtags), etc.
  • RSS feeds

WIBN Businesswoman Award Program:

Three winners were announced at the April 6th Membership Meeting.  Everyone who submitted an application received a lovely green plant and a card from chairwoman Matilde de Franchis-Unruh.  Matilde also acknowledged the meticulous assistance of Connie Marmet, who gave an overview of the program and helped announce the winners:

  • Winner of the $300 Marketing Grant:
  1. Atara Melo of A Melo Place.

  • 2 Winners of Mt. Shasta Chamber of Commerce Memberships:

  1. Kelly Samuelson of KLS Photography.
Because the photography business is largely word of mouth, Kelly is hopeful that chamber membership will expand her network.
